{"id":8633,"date":"2015-02-07T23:07:24","date_gmt":"2015-02-08T04:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theglobalconversation.com\/blog\/?p=8633"},"modified":"2015-02-07T23:07:24","modified_gmt":"2015-02-08T04:07:24","slug":"an-open-letter-to-our-world-can-humans-ever-embrace-the-true-nature-of-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theglobalconversation.com\/blog\/?p=8633","title":{"rendered":"<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">An Open Letter to Our World:<BR><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> CAN HUMANS EVER EMBRACE<BR> THE TRUE NATURE OF LOVE?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cLove means not having to say you\u2019re sorry,\u201d Erich Segal famously wrote as a piece of dialogue in his wonderful book Love Story over 25 years ago.\u00a0 Today, I would like to amend that.\u00a0 I want to say\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLove means not having to say you\u2019re bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was musing about this earlier this morning with my wonderful wife, Em.\u00a0 \u201cYou know what I think love is?\u201d I asked.\u00a0 \u201cWhat?\u201d she smiled.\u00a0 \u201cI think love is a willingness to always return your Beloved to the highest ideas about themselves that they\u2019ve ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Em smiled again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this is what God does for us,\u201d I went on. \u00a0\u201dI think God\u2019s \u2018job\u2019 is to return us every day to the highest idea we\u2019ve ever had about ourselves.\u00a0 I think God sees us the way we see us in our highest version.\u00a0 I think God says to us, \u2018Yes, yes, that is Who You are.\u00a0 Stay with that!\u00a0 Stick with that!\u00a0 Don\u2019t give that up!\u00a0 And don\u2019t ever let anyone tell you anything different about yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I think that when we do this for our Beloved, and our Beloved does this for us, we have a match made in Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>But what happens in so many relationships is this: \u00a0We meet someone to whom we are attracted, and we fall in love. \u00a0We then see them in all their wonderful ways, virtually without fault or foible.\u00a0 If we are lucky, they fall in love with us, too.\u00a0 And they see us in the same way: virtually without stain or soil.\u00a0 If we are really lucky, we become Life Partners.<\/p>\n<p>Then the Moment-to-Moment sets in.<\/p>\n<p>In the Moment-to-Moment, and over a period of time, our Beloved begins to see things in us that were not immediately apparent to them \u2014 or that were apparent, but that they easily and graciously ignored.\u00a0 In addition, some things that they could never have seen, because they were not close enough, now become visible.\u00a0 The Moment-to-Moment reveals things about us that the Now-and-Then does not.<\/p>\n<p>So now here we are, standing, literally, naked, confronted by the reality that we have some \u201cstuff\u201d going on that our Beloved hadn\u2019t seen or anticipated; that we, ourselves, had almost forgotten about in the heady days of being loved so unconditionally by another.<\/p>\n<p>Yet now we have to face the facts: \u00a0we are not so special as we thought ourselves to be;
